Tasting Notes
Classic Rockpile Zinfandel with intense boysenberry, blueberry, and cardamom aromas in the nose and an intricate full-bodied mouth with cherry cola, nougat, cacao, maple syrup, and spice. The finish is complex, comprised of round and balanced tannins that contribute to a long, seamless finish.
Vineyard Details
First planted in 1997, this picturesque vineyard sits above the fog layer at an elevation of 1,300 feet, where year-round high temperatures are about 4-5° F cooler than the Dry Creek Valley. Strong onshore breezes in spring and early summer ensure a definitive marine influence despite the elevation, with a climate similar to that of the Yorkville Highlands of southern Mendocino County. With a southwestern exposure, this vineyard is typically among the first to be harvested at Rockpile Ranch.
