Abundant aromas of classic blackberry, blueberry, and vanilla bean set the stage for flavors of Santa Rosa plum, marionberry, and black peppercorn. Decanting can bring out notes of rosehip. Plentiful tannins linger along with flavors of fig preserves, dark chocolate, and violet. Rich and well-structured, this is an ideal pairing for a port-braised lamb shank with rustic polenta and crumbed chevre. Enjoy now or cellar through 2030 for additional development.
The vision Rod and Cathy Park had when they originally planted their vineyards and helped establish the Rockpile Appellation to distinguish the grapes grown there is shared by current owners Ken and Diane Wilson. The Syrah vineyard was planted in 1998 to the late-ripening Estrella clone, which originated from cuttings brought over in the mid-1970s from the Chapoutier family's Hermitage vineyard in France’s Rhône Valley. The high-altitude, unique climate and shallow soil have proven to be the perfect mix of ingredients for ideal Syrah growing conditions.
